It’s true, isn’t it? When I visit a friend’s house and her house is spick and span I question myself and my housewife duties, “Why can’t I keep my house this clean? Where does she stash all of her papers, legos and laundry? How is there no dust on her DVD player and pink mold growing in her bathtub?”
I’d bet the bank my husband (El Guapo) thinks, “Wow-this is nice! Either no one lives here during the day or my wife’s got some ‘splainin’ to do!”.
If a friend’s house is normal and cluttered I feel relaxed. Random dusts bunnies blow across the floor as I enter, pink is an accent color in the bathroom and the dishwasher and the sink are full. I am comfortable even if I do leave my shoes on as not to get crumbs between my toes.
Right now, if you come to my house, it will be very clean and you’ll feel very bad about yourself. Sorry. We’re selling the house right now so it’s uncharacteristically uncluttered and clean. El Guapo thinks we can keep it up-even when the house isn’t for sale.
I think the realtor and sign are fake and it’s his way of seeing if I can keep it up until it’s a habit. We’re almost there-but then, is it worth making you feel bad about yourself when you come over? I don’t think so.
p.s. don’t look under the beds and in the closets!

You would feel good about yourself if you came to my house. Ours is for sale and I gave up on keeping it clean. I mean, I’ve been doing a pretty good job, but we’ve only had one person look at it on one month so I don’t knock myself out. Our garage is the clutter magnet now.

I couldn’t agree more. I feel much more comfortable when I see clutter at others homes and it makes me feel less of a failure b/c of the state of my home. We are also wanting to put our house on the market and I don’t know how I am going to keep on top of it…my husband is the culprit not the children 🙂

You should come over to my house right now… actually, anytime this week (and last) would’ve been perfect… my house is a wreck!

You’re awesome!!! I love you Lady!!! I am working like a mad woman right now to clean my house because my MOPS table is coming over in the morning. Maybe I should stop cleaning so they feel more at home. 🙂

Yes-stop! although I’m too late. I pick up when people come over-but I’ve learned not to kill myself-because it’s just going to make the people feel better about themselves if they see me in real life! Love you!!
