Are you sure you saved the only copy with the text? I’ve thought I’ve done that before and you just have to go back to the original and undo your edits. I’ve panicked many times thinking I saved over the original. I usually do “Save a Copy”. If you click “Save” it will ask you if you want to make changes to the disk, but it’s supposed to make a back-up copy too. 🙂
